Our office, along with the ADA, recommends your child first see a dental professional by the age of one year old. Children tend to have poor coordination and attention span to properly take care of dental hygiene. They need help from their parents to effectively clean their teeth everyday, and their dentist’s monitoring at 6-months checkups to ensure healthy teeth. One of the more common dental diseases for young children ages 1 to 5 is Early Childhood Caries (cavities). It is usually brought about by prolonged use of formula bottles or sippy cups during each day and night with little or no home care of they teeth by the parents. Early Childhood Caries (cavities) can be prevented with proper home care and routine dental checkups There is a common misconception that because the baby teeth will eventually fall out, that the teeth do not require as much care as the permanent teeth. The fact is that these baby teeth can, and will, hurt your child as much as permanent teeth, if they get large cavities or become infected.
